BARCELONA
a small layover at Placa d’Espanya
The first part of my journey was a long layover in Barcelona. It was long enough to be able to get a tiny preview of the city. I was only able to see the Placa d’Espanya. But yeah, I got out the Airport and slept in the city this totally counts as visit. I wish I could have gotten good pictures of all the Catalonian flags. These people straight up have a whole “the south will rise again” thing here, minus the slavery part. Here a recent article about it.
This was the only picture I was able to get inside. I was quickly told by the police to stop taking pictures. The only reason I could think of, was that they thought I was collecting intel for a terrorist plot. Spain has experienced some big Islamic terrorist attacks in recent years.
My favorite picture of the entire layover. Ironically the architecture has Islamic influences. It’s a subtle reminder that Southern Spain was once ruled over by Islamic Moors for longer than the US has been a country.
The Venetian Towers, were pretty neat. Also there’s my Mom in the corner, she took me on quite a few vacations so I brought her along for the first leg of the world tour.
On the way to the Palau Naciaonal, I saw one of the many roses that everybody seemed to had. Turns out it was a Catalonian holiday called “Lover’s Day”. The most romantic day of the year. This picture serves as proof that this adventure started on April 23rd, 2018.
Being from LA I was always taken aback by tourists coming in and admiring everyday places. The Hollywood walk of fame for me is just a place for clubs and bums. But now here I am admiring these long flights of stairs and for local its just a great place to get some cardio.
My first taste of major European architecture. That blue netting is to make sure that debris doesn’t fall off while they are restoring it.
A nice view from the Palau Nacional, a bit foggy, a big hazy, but still a marvel.
Just a big ass water fountain. That dude walking by it gives a great sense of the scale of it. I wish it was on though.
In most of my trips I like to focus on the everyday. What you are looking at is a typical Spanish neighborhood. Its just a bunch of apartments and condos. There’s just no place for a house here. People are really squished together here.
This placed smell liked fish supposedly it was because we were below sea level. But I doubt someone with money can tolerate the smell. The place was also very tiny compared to any apartment I’ve been in, but that’s just my ‘murica spewing out.
I thought these keys only existed in the past or in cartoons. Where are the little teeth?
The only view I was able to get of the whole city. It was quite the cloudy day.
